Job Summary

The EHS Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating safety compliance and programs for manufacturing and support operations. Coordinates the development and implementation of programs intended to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness and financial losses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR and other federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules.
  • Maintains, creates, and communicates all required environmental, health and safety programs.
  • Trains employees and management in required safe practices including but not limited to: Hazardous Communications, first responder, bloodborne pathogens, respirator use, lock-out/tag-out, forklift operation, fire protection, and safe lifting.
  • Identify and appraise conditions that could produce accidents and financial losses and report to management.
  • Develop accident prevention and loss control systems/programs for incorporation into operational polices of the organization and maintains all safety systems, training, policies, and procedures.
  • Routinely inspects facilities, machinery, equipment, and personnel practices to identify potential safety and health concerns and hazards.
  • Coordinating with supervisors/managers reviews, complies, and analyzes employee safety audits and recommends necessary corrective actions.
  • Conducts post-accident investigation and provides recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Chairs, schedules, and manages Wixon Safety Committee agenda and related corrective actions.
  • Acts as company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters affecting the company.
  • Coordinates with the Human Resources Department to evaluate employee injuries, worker compensation claims, restricted duty and return to work initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safety and health and environmental codes and regulations required.
  • Ability to train in all areas of safety and health.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications required (MS Word & Excel preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a safety related field required, managing a compliance programs in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
