Job Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Analytical Chemist is responsible for all aspects of the analytical lab function ranging from new product and raw material approval, routine analysis of raw materials and finished goods, investigative troubleshooting, policy and methodology development, equipment selection and maintenance, and the mentoring, training and leadership of the laboratory staff. The role also provides a technical liaison between the quality function, R&D, sales, management, and the customer.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Coodinates the QC approval of new vendors and ingredients, reviews and approves new formulas
  • Conducts routine analysis of raw materials and finished goods according to SOPs
  • Facilitates the management and disposition of non-conforming product
  • Through lab instumentation, provides technical direction and design input for R&D
  • Selects, calibrates, maintains and toubleshoots lab instrumentation
  • Serves as an organizational resource for technical concerns, scientific expertise, methodology development, formulation advice and support
  • Identifies new equipment or improvements in lab methodology that enhances orginizational effectiveness and/or efficiency
  • Oversees the proficiency testing program analyzes performance data

Qualifications

Key Qualifications Include:

  • Strong practical knowledge of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis. Experience in a wide variety of analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, GC, GC/MS, GC/MS-SPME/Head-space, NIR, UV-VIS, laboratory robotics and wet chemistry analyses. Solid knowledge of ICP, ICP-MS, FTIR, LC/MS, ELISA techniques is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or a related field is required.
  • Current Good Manufacturing Practice experience and knowledge of FDA regulation is preferred.
  • Hands-on, technical experience of 5 or more years in a research or analytical laboratory is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role is preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or a related field is required.
